Tar Heels a work in progress

In anticipation of the upcoming ACC-Big Ten Challenge, here's a look at the surprises that have caught my eye in those two leagues:

The Tar Heels have issues on both sides of the ball

If I told you before the season that North Carolina would go to the Bahamas and record wins over UCLA and Florida by an average margin of 16.5 points, you doubtless would have thought that Roy Williams' team had lived up to its lofty preseason ranking (No. 6 nationally).

Alas, that is not the case. It turns out the Bruins and, especially, the Gators are not yet quite as strong as they were anticipated to be. And the Tar Heels' 74-66 loss to Butler -- as well as the team's numbers for the season as a whole -- indicates that Carolina has work to do before it can be considered a legitimate contender for the ACC title.
