New Mexico State expected to hire Paul Weir as coach

New Mexico State will hire assistant Paul Weir to replace Marvin Menzies, multiple sources told ESPN.

Weir has been on staff with Menzies for the past nine seasons, in which the Aggies have gone to the NCAA tournament five times.

Sources told ESPN that Weir was selected by athletic director Mario Moccia over Baylor assistant Jerome Tang, Arizona assistant Joe Pasternack and Oklahoma assistant Chris Crutchfield.

New Mexico State's top two players -- 6-foot-9 sophomore Pascal Siakam (20.1 PPG) and Ian Baker -- have both said they will declare for the NBA draft. Neither has hired an agent, which allows them to maintain their college eligibility.
