New Mexico State to hire Wichita State assistant Chris Jans

New Mexico State announced the hiring of Wichita State assistant and former Bowling Green head coach Chris Jans as the Aggies' next head coach on Monday.

Sources told ESPN's Jeff Goodman that the deal is for four years.

Paul Weir left New Mexico State to coach New Mexico after one season in which the Aggies went 28-6 and won the Western Athletic Conference tournament. They lost to Baylor in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Jans was a special assistant at Wichita State from 2015 to '17 and an associate head coach last season.

He was the head coach at Bowling Green for one season (2014-15), during which the team went 21-12. But he was fired for violating the morals clause of his contract after he was caught on video acting inappropriately toward female patrons at a bar.
