Selig's proposal good for baseball

I'm encouraged by commissioner Bud Selig's new proposal for banned substance enforcement. I'm a big believer in the fact that the stiffer the penalty, the less likely someone is to do something dumb.

Under this proposal, guys are going to be less likely to make a mistake that could potentially damage their career and reputation because of those harsh penalties. If this proposal is able to go through and keep its teeth, I think more than just players are going to be affected. This is also going to affect every team in the game. A team's general manager would have to have rocks in his head to sign a guy to a four-year deal if he thinks there's a chance the player could miss half the season due to a suspension.

I hope the Players Association agrees to it and gets something done quickly because this rule can only help baseball.
