Usually a long road to The Show

I'm sorry, Keith Law. I'm sorry, Baseball America. I'm sorry, guys at MLB.com who put on the big show every June. I'm sorry, but I just can't get all that excited about the first-year player draft (or "the draft," as lazy people like me call it).

Through 2005, 11 pitchers had been selected with the first pick in the draft. The first pick. How successful were those 11 pitchers? They won 810 games and lost 831. Of course, that doesn't tell us much about the particular pitchers. So let's look at individual accomplishments.

Winning 300 games is nice. None of those 11 pitchers won 300 games. Or 200. Or 165 (Mike Moore tops the list with 161 wins).
