Adrian Gonzalez deal good for Sox

The Red Sox announced Friday morning that they have come to terms with first baseman Adrian Gonzalez on a seven-year contract extension worth $154 million. While a contract extension was seen as likely from the moment the Red Sox traded for Gonzalez this winter -- the team didn't want to give up top pitching prospect Casey Kelly as part of a one-year rental -- it took until now for the team to close the deal.

So, just how good a deal is this for the Red Sox? Should they have waited and made a run for free agent-to-be Albert Pujols or are they wise to go with the bird in hand?
