CHICAGO -- More than a full week after the Chicago Cubs clinched the National League Central, baseball crowned its second division champion of the season when the Texas Rangers wrapped up the American League West on Friday night.
With each clinching, we're doing a little tale of the tape to see how the Cubs stack up against each potential postseason opponent. In some respects, it would be a less-than-historical matchup. After all, the last time the Cubs won the World Series, the Texas Rangers were strictly a bunch of fearsome dudes on horseback who chased criminals around.
From a baseball standpoint, it's an interesting clash between two young teams built up through scouting and development, and polished off with the right mix of veterans when the window of contention opened.
