Remember all that money the Boston Red Sox saved by sending Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Adrian Gonzalez to the Los Angeles Dodgers last summer? Well, that cash came in handy Tuesday as the Sox and Dustin Pedroia agreed to a seven-year, $100 million contract extension, which keeps their franchise second baseman in town until a few months after his 38th birthday.

Usually, when we talk about contracts, we talk about which party got ripped off. This time, we have a bona fide rarity on our hands in a star contract that's absolutely fair for both sides.
