The Dodgers and Cody Bellinger settled at $16.1 million, one year after he set a record for a first-year, arbitration-eligible player. This was just slightly higher than the $15.9M projected for him by MLB Trade Rumors. Bellinger has two more arbitration years left and will become very expensive if he keeps this pace up.

More Tommy Lasorda: "When I was 14, I was in the kitchen & my mother had a little can of Carnation milk on the table – what possessed me to look at that can, I'll never know. Its label said ‘contented cows give better milk.' And I began to believe that contented people will give better performance, so I tried to make my players contented. I tried to make them love what they're doing, love the Dodger organization and believe they were working and playing for the best organization in baseball."

Tommy Lasorda on hugging his players: "I wanted to show them my affection for them, wanted them to know that I'm with them, I'm going to do everything I can to make them play good, everything I can to make them win, and that's the way that I felt about my players, so why shouldn't I hug them? I told them how much I appreciate them, I appreciate their families. I knew every player's wife's name, I knew every player's children's names, so I felt I tried to build this family attitude."
