Puig, after home burglary, says LA will take West

Yasiel Puig's pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning against the Rockies ignited the Dodgers to victory. It was Puig's sixth homer in his past 18 at-bats. "We're going to win the West," Puig declared, "and go to the playoffs."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts: "This game, this series, was emblematic of our ballclub, of how many people had their hands in this series to help win three games."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Has Yasiel Puig ever been on a roll like this? "Yes, in my house in video games."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Yasiel Puig left Tuesday's game early because his home was burglarized (for the fourth time since spring training of 2017). He tried to make it back to the game before it ended, but there was too much traffic. "My pilot's not home," he said. "He's on vacation."

Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers' hero tonight: "We're going to win the West again and go to the playoffs."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Dodgers win, 5-2, and sweep a crucial three-game series against the Rockies. They have won seven of their last eight games and now own a season-high 2 1/2-game lead in the NL West.

Puig smokes homer to center, gets kiss from coach (0:38)

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Again: Yasiel Puig has drastic reverse splits these last two years. The Rockies left a righty in to face him, with 1B open, then went to a lefty after he hit the home run. Doesn't make sense.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Yasiel Puig is out of his mind. A pinch-hit three-run homer, giving the Dodgers a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning. It is his sixth home run in his last 18 at-bats.

Buehler strikes out 12 Rockies over 6 innings (0:57)

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Walker Buehler completed six innings despite a 36-pitch first, striking out 12 batters and allowing two unearned runs. He has reached 140 2/3 innings for the season, but whatever innings limit he carried into it has seemingly been forgotten now. He is, basically, the Dodgers' co-ace.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Walker Buehler recorded 35 strikeouts in his first 25 innings this month. He has 10 tonight, a career high (that will probably be topped many times over).

Kemp crushes solo homer to left (0:37)

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rockies LF Gerardo Parra did not move an inch. Matt Kemp launched one way over his head for his 20th home run this season. The Dodgers now have seven players with 20-plus home runs, a franchise record.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Walker Buehler faced seven batters, threw 36 pitches and allowed a couple of runs, on a two-out single by Ian Desmond, in the first inning. The Dodgers had a reliever, Zac Rosscup, warming in the bullpen. Buehler has allowed 2 runs or less in 8 of his last 9 starts.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

Quite an adventure in the top of the first at Dodger Stadium. The Rockies load the bases with no outs, Walker Buehler nearly works out of the jam, but then Ian Desmond -- starting at shortstop -- grounds a hard-hit two-run single up the middle. Buehler ends up throwing 36 pitches. Looks one of those nights where we might see six or seven Dodgers relievers. Yay.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Over the last two years, Yasiel Puig, a RHH, is OPS'ing 286 points higher against RHs than LHs, which is why he is sitting for the second straight day. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Puig is able to stay square in his stance against righties because he's "not afraid of the baseball" and "it allows him to stay on the baseball." For some reason, Puig is better at reading the ball tailing away from him as opposed to the one breaking in on him. Most guys are the opposite.
