Dodgers' Hill throws pain-free, to start Tuesday

Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill reported no pain after throwing nearly 20 pitches in a simulated game Friday and said he was still hopeful of helping the Dodgers during the postseason.

Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (ankle) is out of the lineup for the 10th straight game, but is available off the bench for the first time in more than a week. The plan is for him to play the first handful of innings on Saturday and Sunday.

Rich Hill threw 17 pitches in a simulated game and said the brace he wore during the session kept him from experiencing pain. He says he is merely dealing with scar tissue in his left knee, not a new tear. The plan is for him to pitch for the Dodgers on Tuesday and then the following Sunday.

Meadows homers in 11th, Rays rally past Dodgers 8-7

Austin Meadows homered leading off the 11th inning, sending Tampa Bay to an 8-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers that helped the Rays keep pace in the AL wild-card race and prevented the New York Yankees from clinching the AL East title Wednesday...

It has been 11 days since Justin Turner was in the Dodgers' lineup. The NLDS begins in a litte more than two weeks. Dave Roberts said Turner, nursing an ankle sprain that has been deemed mild, moved around a little better today, but is still unavailable. Roberts said "there's plenty of time for him to get some at-bats to get him ready for the postseason." "When he does come back, I just really wanna be confident that we can sustain it," Roberts added. "When that is, we'll see."

The Dodgers captured their 98th win with a 7-5 victory over the Rays. Kenley Jansen, who has thrown a livelier cutter in recent days, recorded a 4-out save. Corey Seager drove in four runs and Cody Belinger added a run-scoring double.

Dodgers' Verdugo out for NLDS; Hill uncertain

Alex Verdugo has been ruled out of the first round of the postseason and it's unclear how many innings the Dodgers will be able to get out of Rich Hill.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The MRI in Rich Hill's knee showed something similar to what he dealt with in spring training, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. No structural damage; it's about pain tolerance, but it also means the Dodgers won't have a traditional fourth starter in the postseason. A Game 4, Roberts said, will be "a little unconventional." Ross Stripling, who will come out of the bullpen in relief of Caleb Ferguson tonight, will be among the nine or so relievers to make the team.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Dodgers OF Alex Verdugo rejoined the team in Los Angeles because today is his bobblehead night. Doctors have ruled him out for the NLDS, but he is hopeful of being back for a potential NLCS. He isn't doing any baseball activities at the moment. "Extremely disappointing," Verdugo said.
