What losing Justin Turner means for the Dodgers

Starting the season without its star third baseman might not cost L.A. the division, but the injury could determine home-field advantage in the NL.

Tristan H. Cockcroft ESPN Senior Writer

I'm going with the guesstimate of Justin Turner being sidelined until mid-May, so he drops from 3B7 to 3B15 in my rankings. Despite the position's depth, it's a huge hit, considering Turner, pre-injury, was much more an early- than mid-round third baseman.

Dodgers renew Bellinger, Seager contracts

The Dodgers have renewed the contracts of 2017 NL Rookie of the Year Cody Bellinger for $585,000 and of 2016 NL Rookie of the Year Corey Seager for $605,000.

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager played in the ‘B' game today at Camelback Ranch, his first action in the field of the spring. He had two chances during the outing, both times making smooth throws to first. Afterward, he said his elbow is fine and is hopeful that will be the case for the long haul. Dave Roberts talked this morning about resting Seager from time to time during the season, a plan the young star said he's not on board with, as you'd expect. Seager also reminded us why we pay such close attention: He went deep in his first plate appearance.

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

Kenley Jansen threw a clean inning in a ‘B' game for the Dodgers this morning. Jansen reported no problems with the sore hamstring that's had him sidelined lately. Jansen used the outing to work on his slider, throwing nine of them during the brief stint. He's slated to pitch again on Thursday.
