Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake on whether pitchers would be prone to injuries with starting and stopping their throwing this spring: "There's definitely a possibility of it, just like any start and stop throughout the season. Anytime you stop and then idle guys, and then try and ramp them back up, that's where the concern would be if you do it too quickly. So we're trying to be as proactive in monitoring their situations as much as possible, so we safely bring them up to speed."

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake on potentially how many pitchers they will need once the season starts back up, since it may require a lot of doubleheaders: "Depends on how much the starters get built up in spring training. The easy place to go would be in that 15 (pitchers) range. I think (we've) heard 28-29 players being talked about for opening the season back up, but I think if you have 15 guys... you could use some depth."

Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake said that James Paxton is doing well in his throwing program and rehab from having a peridiscal cyst removed from his lower back.

Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake said that "there's definitely a possibility" that pitchers may get injured with the "stop-start" workouts that they may experience this spring training.

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

There's obviously no certainty at this point, but pitching coach Matt Blake said the Yankees may need around 15 pitchers if teams are asked to play 8-9 games per week during the season, which would require doubleheaders.
