Yankees pitcher Sonny Gray, who was on base once Monday for the first time in three years, got chided by teammates for having a slow trot on Aaron Hicks' fifth-inning home run. Aaron Judge joked it was as if Gray thought he hit the homer. As a pitcher, Gray also didn't know the hitters' handshakes, so he kind of messed up the celebration with Hicks at the plate. Said Hicks: "Don't do that. Not on live TV!"

In speaking about how Jonathan Holder got the Yankees out of a key sixth-inning, no-out, first and third jam Monday night, Sonny Gray said: "After he did that, you could feel a jolt go across the bench, and we kind of knew we were going to win this game." The Yankees pulled through with a 4-2 win.

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner says he was out of the lineup today due to some soreness he was feeling in his right knee. Says it isn't one specific time in which he hurt himself; more of an "over time" issue. MRI today revealed some inflammation, but nothing too serious. Hopes to play Monday.
