The fights at UFC Apex can be seen on ESPN+, with the main card starting at 4 p.m. ET and the prelims at 1 p.m.
Both main event fighters are coming off title bout defeats. The fight was scheduled for middleweight, but Costa let the UFC know during the week he could not make the 186-pound limit for a nontitle bout in that division, so after consultation with Vettori's team, the UFC adjusted it, first to a 195-pound catchweight fight, then to the 205-pound light heavyweight limit.
Costa (13-1) has not competed since September 2020, when he suffered his only loss in a second-round TKO at the hands of champion Israel Adesanya. Costa, who is 30 and from Brazil, is No. 3 in the ESPN middleweight rankings.
Vettori (17-5-1) lost a unanimous decision to Adesanya in June, halting a five-fight winning streak. The 28-year-old Italian is ranked sixth among 185-pounders by ESPN.
