Sonics need commitment on defensive end

Going into the season, I thought Bob Weiss had one of the more difficult jobs in the league. He inherited a SuperSonics team that overachieved and that lost a coach who had been there for years -- Nate McMillan did a noteworthy job and fielded a good basketball team. The club also lost on-court leadership in Antonio Daniels.

Weiss didn't have much room for error.

Once a team fires the coach, the players have to understand it falls on them now. For the Sonics, they must improve on the defensive side. They're dead last in opponents' field-goal percentage. Usually a team doesn't make the playoffs if it's in the bottom 10 in the league in field-goal defense.
