NBA Offseason Buzz: Timberwolves

Want to know who's heating up for a big season on the hardwood? Insider is tapping into John Hollinger's projected player efficiency ratings to see who's trending up and down across the NBA. Ric Bucher rounds out the report by examining a pivotal player you'll want to watch as the season approaches. The series continues with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

New GM David Kahn actually appears to be restoring a degree of order and respectability to the frozen tundra not seen since coach Flip Saunders went north and KG went east. They're a ways away from being anything more than a 30-win team, but now at least there appears to be a plan of action and an aggressive attitude about executing it. Kurt Rambis is a sensible coach for the Timberwolves' current situation, and drafting for assets rather than position-filling players makes sense, too. Kahn already has made two trips to Spain to procure the services of No. 5 pick Ricky Rubio and there are indications he may make a third. That's simply one example of sweat equity that hasn't been invested by the front office in quite some time.

To see which player is taking off, who is crashing to earth and which name you'll need to know for the 2009-10 season, you must be an ESPN Insider.
