Offseason Moves

Stefanski's first offseason was a busy one, engineering enough cap space to make a free-agent plunge and inking Cheeks to an extension that will keep him on the sidelines through 2010. Actually, it was his second extension. Most considered Cheeks a lame-duck when Stefanski took over -- inherited coaches usually are, especially when on the last year of their contract. But Philly's kids responded so well to Cheeks that he was given a one-year reprieve in February, and in the fall another year was tacked on to the deal to give him some job security and, perhaps, some added leverage in the locker room.
