National Recruiting Director Tom Luginbill offers his perspective on recent recruiting developments. Mitch Mustain (6-foot-3, 198 pounds) from Springdale High School in Arkansas has verbally committed to the University of Arkansas.
I've said for months now that I felt that Mitch would end up at Arkansas for the simple reason that it affords him the opportunity to play and contribute right away. This is a huge pickup for the University of Arkansas and coach Houston Nutt. For the first time in a long time, Arkansas has a bona fide passer at the QB position.
Mustain is so polished because he was asked to do a lot of things in his high school offensive scheme that will adequately prepare him for the complexities of the college game. He has played with multiple Division I prospects around him for the last three years and should not be wowed by the jump in competition from high school to college. Also it helps that Mustain will be accompanied by his current teammate and one of his closest friends in WR Andrew Norman.
I think this verbal commitment certainly will help get attention from other skill position players who want to play with a QB of Mustain's caliber.
