Tebow cramming before commitment

I spoke with Nease High School head coach Craig Howard on Wednesday morning, and Nease is playing for Florida's 4A state championship Saturday at 1 p.m. ET in Miami. He and his star quarterback, Tim Tebow, have a lot on their plates this week as they prepare for the game, with Tebow's college announcement coming Tuesday.

Both Florida coach Urban Meyer and his staff and Alabama coach Mike Shula and his staff attended Nease's state semifinal victory before Tebow left for his visit to USC. His USC visit reportedly was great; the Trojans have an offense that he really likes, with quality players, but they also have a lot of depth at QB, with John David Booty and Mark Sanchez. Also, it's almost 3,000 miles away. USC coach Pete Carroll and his staff have done a great job recruiting Tebow.

This week, Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, LSU head coach Les Miles and Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen are all scheduled to meet with Tebow. Miles was scheduled to come to town Thursday but may have to reschedule for Sunday to make LSU's last pitch because the Nease football team leaves for Miami at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday morning.

Shula will be making an official home visit with Tebow and his family on Monday prior to Tuesday's announcement and probably will get the last pitch. Alabama presents an appealing situation with a wide-open QB race in 2006, great tradition and every indication that the program is heading in the right direction.

For those who do not know, Tebow is homeschooled and will be eligible to graduate in December and be a midsemester transfer wherever he decides to go. This would give him a leg up as he would be able to compete in spring practice heading into fall camp.

ESPNU will run a feature on Tebow on Monday at 5:10 p.m. ET, and Tebow's announcement will air Tuesday at 5:10 p.m. ET on ESPNEWS and ESPNU.

Tom Luginbill is the national director of recruiting for Scouts Inc. Tom will be a studio analyst on ESPNU every Thursday and Saturday, talking college football and giving updates on the latest recruiting news.
