Most of his roster returns, but that doesn't mean veteran Austin Peay coach Dave Loos was worry free entering the 2006-07 season.

Loos had to find replacements for leading scorers Zac Schlader and Maurice "Squeaky" Hampton.

"I'm excited," Loos said. "Eight of our top 10 kids are coming back. That's the upside. The downside is the two we lost were our leading scorers."

And both were all-conference players.

Schlader, a 6-9, 230-pound forward/center, was on the All-OVC first team and Hampton, a 6-2 guard was on the second team.

Schlader (14.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg) was in the top 15 in the league in scoring and rebounding last season, and his 21 blocks was in the top 10.

Hampton (16.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.7 apg), who went to play in Ireland in the fall, was seventh in the league in scoring. Hampton led the team in three-pointers, hitting 57-of-175 (.326), and was second in the league in free-throw shooting (.859), and third in steals (55 in 31 games, or 1.77 per game).

Both gave the Governors more than just production on the floor.

"That's tough [to replace], not just on the floor but off the floor," Loos said. "They both provided a lot of leadership, but I like our young guys. We won 17 games and our young players got a lot of minutes."
