Surely you remember Selection Sunday last season. When the four No. 1 seeds popped up on the screen, three of them -- Louisville, Pittsburgh and Connecticut -- were from the Big East. Never before (and maybe never again?) had a single conference gotten more than two No. 1 seeds in the same season.
So this was supposed to be a transition year for the Big East. The league would be deep and talented, of course, but the Big Ten was thought to be poised for a turn as the "it" conference in college basketball.
Not so much.
