Senior Week, Day 1: Fear the turtle

For five days, ESPN The Magazine and Insider will bring you exclusive access inside the lead-up to Duke senior Jon Scheyer's final home game at Cameron Stadium against archrival North Carolina, the game itself and the aftermath.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- This is not part of the script, at least the one Jon Scheyer would author. He is lost, engulfed in a sea of red and gold that grows by the second on the Comcast Center's hardwood floor. Scheyer's chief rival for the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Year award, fellow senior Greivis Vasquez, has coaxed Maryland's student section onto the court, not that they needed an invitation. See, the Terps just beat Duke 79-72; tied the Blue Devils for first place in the conference; celebrated Vasquez's senior night in style. In Scheyer's mind, this was supposed to have been an emphatic stamp on Duke's ACC supremacy, a locked-down No. 1 seed for the NCAA tournament and, maybe, the final push for that POY trophy. Instead, it is both a deflating moment and a reminder that one game still remains on Duke's regular-season schedule. It's the last game he'll ever play at Cameron Indoor Stadium, against archrival North Carolina.
