Coaches always talk about talent.
"The best talent usually wins," is typical coachspeak.
While that may usually be the case -- i.e. Connecticut two years ago and North Carolina last season -- it doesn't always ring true.
Take for instance Grambling State. For years, the Tigers have one of the most talent-laden rosters, only to underachieve each season.
Coach Larry Wright and Co. are trying their best to shake that label. After years of hovering in the middle or bottom half of the SWAC standings, Grambling won nine games and finished in a tie for fourth two years ago. Then a year ago, it won 11 conference games and finished tied for second.
"I feel like finishing in a tie for second place, only one game out of first place, is something positive we can build on,'' Wright said. "We've just got to keep on improving.''
