Dane Fife has seen the future at IPFW. And it looks a lot like his past.
In his first season, the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I basketball's vision of what the Mastodons can be is his memory of life as an Indiana Hoosier under Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight.
"That's the model,'' said Fife, a 25-year-old former Hoosier star who was recruited by Knight and spent the last two seasons as an Indiana assistant under former Knight lieutenant Mike Davis.
"I played under two coaches -- my dad [Dan, his high school coach] and coach Knight -- that I'm most familiar with, and while I will take things I learned from coach Davis, I'm most comfortable with the Knight-style program. That's what I will pattern myself off of.''
