Javard Gaines leaning towards Marshall

December, 31, 2010
Although he still has an academic hurdle to clear, three-star linebacker Javard Gaines (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) appears to be leaning heavily toward Marshall University.

"He hasn't committed yet, but it looks like it's going to be Marshall," Hackensack coach Mike Miello said. "We're still struggling to get him to qualify. We're waiting on one more course. Waiting for one more grade to come in and hopefully that will do it. I do feel good about the situation."

Gaines, who is one of the top uncommitted recruits in the Northeast, is a pass-rushing specialist who could play either linebacker or defensive end in college. He had 9.5 sacks in seven games last season, when injuries forced him to miss three games. He recorded 14.5 sacks as a junior.
