A Ho-Hum Saturday

October, 24, 2005
Random recollections of a ho-hum Saturday as I wait for my Maurice Jones-Drew feature to work its way up the ESPN Mag edit chain.

• Watching what Missouri QB Brad Smith did to Nebraska's alleged Blackshirts on Saturday has me thinking back to something a Big 12 coach had said about the Tiger QB before the season: You think of passers as getting hot sometimes when they can't miss. Brad gets that way when he's running and when he's really on, ohmygod, you'd better look out.

Smith was in ohmygod mode Saturday, just knifing up that defense. He was gashing the Huskers on virtually every play. It was a time-capsule game for the guy who will go down as the most prolific running quarterback in college football history.
