Opening up the mailbag

August, 24, 2007
This week's mailbag begins with a question about Rich Rodriguez's latest weapon, although it's probably not who you might think.

From Bobby in NYC: Now that camp is almost over, who is an impact newcomer you think will really surprise some people this season?

Bruce Feldman: I know Noel Devine is an Internet legend, but there is another short freshman running back at West Virginia from Florida who people need to keep an eye on. His name is Jock Sanders. Sources inside the program have been raving about the squatty 175-pounder for a few weeks now. Most of the recruiting sites didn't grade Sanders very highly at all, but WVU assistant Calvin Magee, who knows the Tampa/St. Pete area well, was convinced all along the Mountaineers were getting a steal in Sanders.
