The fall of UNC and the rise of Denard

October, 6, 2010

We're not quite at the halfway point of the season, but I'm going to jump the gun a little with some mid-year fare: the biggest developments of 2010 thus far.

1. The North Carolina Tar Heels scandals:
A few weeks before the season, all of the talk in Chapel Hill was that Butch Davis' program was poised for a breakthrough and loaded with more NFL-ready talent than any team in America. Then, the Marvin Austin investigation spilled into the John Blake mess, which spilled into an academic scandal too and now there are bad news stories swirling around the program on almost a daily basis. The irony is that in the offseason, everyone's biggest question was the effectiveness of T.J. Yates. Yates is completing 68 percent of his passes and has a 7-to-1 TD-INT ratio. He's probably one of the brightest spots within that program.
