Kentucky's Joker Phillips quietly has the Wildcats in position for a good season. UK's future leads off this week's mailbag:
From @greyraven41: Can Joker and UK compete in SEC East long term?
Kentucky is a intriguing team at this time. They're 4-3, and if you look at the teams left on their schedule they should go at least 7-5 -- probably 8-4 -- and may even win the rest to go 9-3. Georgia in Lexington, Ky., is one UK realistically could win, and then at Mississippi State, which is probably the most daunting of the remaining games. Those two are followed by home games against Charleston Southern and Vanderbilt, followed by a contest at Tennessee.
In terms of the long term, I think it's possible he can get them competitive, but I feel like as long as Urban Meyer is at UF, the Gators be the powerhouse of the group. Right now South Carolina looks like it should be strong for the near future, assuming Steve Spurrier sticks around. Georgia may have righted itself, but it's hard to say with any conviction whether Mark Richt will be the Dawgs' coach two years from now. And Tennessee is in disarray, so the opportunity is there.
