Picks for the recruiting 'Final 10'

January, 26, 2011

With less than a week to go before Wednesday's signing day, we're now in the sprint portion of the recruiting season. Everyone involved -- prospects, their families, coaches, hangers-on, and even those who cover the process -- is running on fumes. College coaches are barnstorming and babysitting, hoping their timing is perfect and that another coaching staff hasn't outmaneuvered them for a key recruit.

This year, as often is the case, a high percentage of the nation's top 20 is still uncommitted (click here for a complete look at the ESPNU 150). This week's Top 10 list consists of the top uncommitted recruits, and my educated guesses on where they will end up.

1. Jadeveon Clowney, DE, No. 1 overall ranking
The contenders: Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks

I've talked about him plenty already. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Clowney is the recruit who prompted one NFL coach, who had just watched film of the South Carolina product, to rave: "Wow! Always thought Adrian Peterson was only true [sic] frosh that looked physically ready for NFL straight from HS... Reminds me of [Jason] Pierre-Paul from USF but much more violent and explosive. .. I'd take for us right now!!"
