Updated Big Ten recruiting breakdown

October, 13, 2010
It is just the middle of the football season, but there are already dozens and dozens of commitments to Big Ten schools. When I last did a run down of Big Ten recruiting in early August there were approximately 125 commitments to Big Ten schools. That total is now up to 149, which makes it a good time to take another look at how each Big Ten team is doing. The schools are in alphabetical order and the number immediately after the school is the number of current commitments for that school.

Illinois (17): After playing Ohio State tough two weeks ago, then going to Happy Valley this past weekend and defeating Penn State, Ron Zook's Fighting Illini have been perhaps a pleasant surprise to some. On the recruiting front, Zook has also added three more commitments over the past two months. Eight of Zook's commitments are from the state of Illinois, but he hasn't been able to land any of the elite in-state prospects. Zook's out-of-state commitments are headed up by safety Zeph Grimes (Bamberg, S.C./Ehrhardt).

Indiana (22): Coach Bill Lynch continues to lead the conference when it comes to number, however, he has not been able to land the very top level talent from his home state. This is a solid group led by outside linebacker Max Pirman (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) and defensive back/wide receiver Raymon Taylor (Highland Park, Mich./Highland). Lynch also has commitments from seven prospects from Ohio and seven from his own state.
