Ty Smith commits to dream school Georgia
March, 29, 2011
The University of Georgia picked up its third verbal commitment of the 2012 recruiting season from tight end Ty Smith (Moultrie, Ga./Colquitt County) on Friday. The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder plays an active role in coach Rush Propst's spread offense. Last season as a junior, he caught 45 passes for over 600 yards and 11 scores. "Georgia is getting one of the best hybrid guys out there," said Propst, who has been at Colquitt County since 2008. "I have been running this offense since 1997 and he's one of the best I have had. If I was coaching this offense in college he would be my No. 1 prospect. Ty can do everything we want in this offense. He's a Dallas Clark [Indianapolis Colts] type of player that can be in the box or outside." Florida was the first to offer Smith, but the Bulldogs were not too far behind and once Georgia pulled the trigger it became a relatively easy decision for Smith.
