Scarpinato commits to Michigan State

July, 14, 2010
Mark Scarpinato (Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University) was one of the top prospects that attended the Chicago Under Armour combine last month and at that time, the 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive tackle was still weighing his college options. On Monday, Scarpinato ended his recruitment.

"My mom and I drove to East Lansing on Sunday night," Scarpinato said. "On Monday, we were given a campus tour. I had been to Michigan State several times but this was the first for my mom and I needed her to feel comfortable with the place that I was going to be spending the next four-to-five years of my life. Michigan State passed with flying colors with my mom and then we sat down with coach [Mark] Dantonio around noon on Monday and I told him I wanted to be a Spartan. Coach Dantonio told me that he wanted to make sure I was serious and I ensured him that I was. All the coaches were excited. Coach [Ted] Gill, the defensive line coach, told me that I made his day. It feels great to be a Spartan. Michigan State is the right place for me and now I can concentrate on playing my senior season. It would be nice to see my future teammate Trae Wanes in the state championship game this year."
