Ryan Mallett shines; Jake Locker falters

There were just too many positive performances in Week 3 of the college football season to put a heavy focus on the negatives, so here's my lopsided version of the stock report.

Stock up

1. Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett
Mallett completed 21 of 33 passes for 380 yards in a 31-24 win over Georgia, and no pass was more important than the winning, 40-yard connection to WR Greg Childs with 15 seconds remaining. Mallett read the Cover 2 defense, kept the backside safety honest by initially staring down a front-side receiver and then delivered a strike in the soft spot of the zone coverage between the corner and the backside safety. The safety was late arriving and thus vulnerable to Childs' double-move because he was charging so hard to get back into the play.
