There's little doubt California's Daymeion Hughes is the Pac-10's best cornerback. Against Washington State, he held Jason Hill to just two catches for 23 yards and hauled in his sixth interception of the season, which is tied for second in the nation. He needs three more interceptions to equal the school record held by Ken Wiedemann, who grabbed 16 from 1967-69.
• Not long ago, Cal playing Washington meant one thing: A Huskies' victory. But after losing 19 in a row in the series, the Bears have now won four straight, and the average score of the last three has been 51-12. Last year, they won 56-17, setting a school record for most points scored on the road. Despite quarterback Joe Ayoob making his first career start -- he had played miserably the week before when he came off the bench for injured starter Nate Longshore -- they rolled up 557 total yards, including 286 yards on the ground. Ayoob threw four touchdown passes.
