Finally, in 2007, the Louisiana-Monroe football program got the signature win it so badly needed -- beating traditional Southeastern Conference power Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
The positive reverberations of the Warhawks' 21-14 upset continue to be felt in northeast Louisiana.

"There's no doubt that something like that gives you a swagger," head coach Charlie Weatherbie said.

Beating the Crimson Tide isn't the only source of swagger. The Warhawks won six of their final eight games in 2007, posting their first .500 record since the program moved to Football Bowl Subdivision status in 1994. ULM also was the author of Sun Belt champ Florida Atlantic's lone conference loss -- a triple-overtime decision on the Owls' home field.

"There's a fine line between arrogance and confidence, and hopefully we can manage that," offensive coordinator Steve Farmer said. "Get too full of yourself and you're not going to get yourself prepared. Right now we feel like our kids are in a good place mentally. Hopefully that will carry them."
