Thomas earns backup job in Dallas

September, 2, 2005
Anthony Thomas won the backup Cowboys job at halfback thanks to his strong efforts on Thursday night against the Jaguars. He will be playing behind Julius Jones. The surprise is that undrafted rookie Tyson Thompson temporarily beat out Marion Barber for the No. 3 job at halfback. Barber's foot infection gave Thompson to the playing time in the last week to beat him out, according to Bill Parcells.

No surprise here, but Tony Romo will be Drew Bledsoe's backup instead of Drew Henson. Henson simply isn't ready. In some ways, he's regressed instead of progressed. Look for Al Johnson and Andre Gurode to share the starting center job, but Johnson is expected to start. Rob Pettiti, a rookie sixth-rounder, won the right tackle job.
