Smith barred from meeting Seahawks assistants

The labor negotiating games continue to grow as the NFL and the NFLPA position themselves for the one of the most important negotiating periods in decades.

On Monday, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith was informed he would not be allowed to meet with the assistant coaches of the Seattle Seahawks during his visit to see the players. In recent weeks, he's met with players and coaches on team sites. Word came down from the league that Smith was not to meet with assistants.

Larry Kennan, executive director of the NFL Coaches Association, accompanied Smith on his tour of teams. Kennan met with the Seahawks assistants. "If the owners aren't afraid of DeMaurice Smith, they ought to be," Kennan said.
