Harrison no longer on Colts' radar

The Colts' decision not to bring back wide receiver Marvin Harrison to replace injured Anthony Gonzalez is a clear sign the organization has moved on from their future Hall of Fame receiver. The Colts will get a medical update on Gonzalez' knee injury Monday night. There is some thought he could miss between 4-to-8 weeks, according to a source, because Gonzalez damaged the PCL and the MCL. The Colts plan to go with Pierre Garcon at right end and Austin Collie in the slot. They are also looking to bring in another receiver. The Colts are feeling good about the idea that they haven't lost Gonzalez for the entire season, but the injury will limit them if he misses half of the season.

Jags' new look impresses Colts: The Jaguars appear to have a younger, more formidable defense with some of the changes they made during the offseason. What impressed the Colts is the use of the 3-4 defense. The Jaguars used more 3-4 looks than 4-3 looks during Sunday's 14-12 Colts' victory. Rookie Terrance Knighton played well at the nose tackle spot. Rookie Derek Cox, a third-round draft choice, did well at cornerback. As long as Maurice Jones-Drew can thrive as the lead running back, the Jaguars can be more competitive this season. The keys: A sound defense and quarterback David Garrard's knack for avoiding crucial mistakes.

Crabtree update: Unsigned first-round choice Michael Crabtree knew how the 49ers started would determine whether he had leverage in his stalled negotiations. The 49ers' upset victory over the Cardinals Sunday shifted the leverage to the 49ers because they have a chance now to get off to a good start. According to a source, Crabtee rationalized that a slow start would create a change in strategy for the 49ers and potentially improve their contract offer. The source said Crabtree also knows that a good start would make the team more rigid in its stance that he should be paid like the 10th overall draft pick. Coach Mike Singletary said the team is considering making a new offer to him.
