With the NFL doing so much to protect quarterbacks, it's easy to view them as pampered and soft. They don't take nearly as many hits as running backs and don't have to throw their bodies into holes like linebackers.
However, a quarterback has one distinct disadvantage when it comes to contact: He doesn't always know where the defender is coming from, so he takes bigger hits than anyone else. In addition, most teams are built around the quarterback. With teammates, fans and coaches leaning on them so heavily, there is a tremendous amount of pressure on QBs to battle through injuries.
