Draft catches attention of future recruits

Drafted players and NFL teams aren't the only ones to reap rewards this weekend. A successful draft can pay dividends for college teams, too. Oklahoma, Auburn, Georgia and Utah are among the programs that will benefit from the 2005 NFL draft.

Let's face it -- programs couldn't buy enough advertising that would deliver the kind of exposure Oklahoma received with its 11 total picks or Auburn grabbed with its four players drafted in the first round. Georgia's four players picked in the first day is huge. Having quarterback Alex Smith taken in the first round raises Utah's profile as a program and as a place that develops quarterbacks.

The exposure from a great draft validates a program -- for the coach, the alumni and recruits.
