Film Notes: Young leading Titans

After breaking down film, Scouts Inc. gives its take on what to watch in the NFL this weekend:

A new Vince Young?

We all saw the 99-yard, game-winning drive over Arizona last week. But how Young and the Titans did it is what catches your eye on film. He looks amazingly patient in the pocket and the game has really slowed down for him. Most of his throws are out of the shotgun formation, which gives him more time to survey the field and read his progressions. A majority of his passes are simple and easy reads with a lot of short and intermediate routes, usually on the perimeter and usually versus simple coverage schemes, and not versus sophisticated zones. Not only does the ball come out quickly, but his offensive line is doing excellent in pass protection and picking up the blitz and when Young feels the pressure he can go "hot" or tuck the ball and run. Although he is much better now at waiting for his routes to develop instead of simply making one read and then taking off, which is what he did in the past. Also, in the Titans' read option, Young attacks the edge of the defense and he can either turn up field or pitch the ball to speedy back Chris Johnson which puts huge pressure on opposing defenses and it show cases Young's still great.
