Film Notes: Pats adapt without Moss

After breaking down film, Scouts Inc. gives its take on what to watch in the NFL this weekend:

What will the Patriots' offense look like without Moss?

The Pats are well positioned to go on without Randy Moss because it appears that they have prepared for this day. With Moss, QB Tom Brady utilized a lot of seven-step drops to buy time to develop those vertical routes, but that also caused a pass protection-challenged offensive line to give up too many big hits on its QB. Now the Pats are going to more three- and five-step drops with multiple TE looks. They can use bunch formations with all sorts of TE/WR combinations, they can play tight two TE sets or flex them and you can bet that they will run the ball more often. Get the ball out quickly, keep the QB clean and throwing chain-moving safe passes are now the keys to this offense.
