The San Francisco 49ers get ready to face the Seattle Seahawks this week on "Monday Night Football" (ESPN, 8:30 p.m. ET). This is the second meeting between the two NFC West rivals this season: The Seahawks won 23-3 in San Francisco in Week 4.
That game was dominated by the Seahawks. They controlled the play clock with 36 minutes, 10 seconds of possession time, compared to the Seahawks' 23:50. They caused three turnovers, forced nine three-and-outs and sacked 49ers quarterbacks Trent Dilfer and Alex Smith a combined six times. This was a whupping.
The Seahawks were able to pull this off using a defensive game plan that they probably will use again this week. They loaded up the box to put the pressure on the quarterback, and then challenged the wide receivers on the outside. They want Smith to have to make quick decisions and force these receivers to have to make plays.
