As I said in my head coaching rankings, first-year head coach Chuck Pagano came into a great situation on offense with the Indianapolis Colts. For a team that is clearly rebuilding, you can't do better than drafting Andrew Luck. And Luck will have some weapons to grow with on offense, such as Reggie Wayne, Coby Fleener, Dwayne Allen and T.Y. Hilton.
What Pagano needs to be worried about is the Colts' defense.
After the Colts used a Cover 2, 4-3 defense during the Manning era, Pagano is attempting to implement an aggressive, new 3-4 system, which he ran in Baltimore as defensive coordinator. He also wants to play a lot of man-to-man on the outside. That requires multiple corners who can hold up on an island, something the Colts didn't have until they acquired Vontae Davis from the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 26 for a 2013 second-round pick and a later conditional pick.
This defense still has some gaping holes, but Davis will vastly improve it in several key areas.
