ESPN Daily: NFL Week 2 Injury Updates

The NFL was hampered by injuries to stars around the league on Sunday. Among them? Saquon Barkley going down for the Giants, Carolina RB Christian McCaffrey, and many, many 49ers, including Jimmy Garoppolo, Nick Bosa, and Raheem Mostert. Considering the impact of those injuries, many teams have now dropped to 0-2. Bill Barnwell discusses the severity of injuries around the league, and explains what’s at stake for football’s winless teams. Plus, a tribute to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg: athletic inspiration.

A positive from the 17-13 loss was the Giants battled back without Saquon and Sterling Shepard. Had a chance to win on final play. Joe Judge thought he was able to "find out a lot about the team we are. ... I liked the way our guys responded. We've got the right guys."

Giants' rushing numbers since Saquon Barkley's injury (trailed by 10-plus the entire time): Dion Lewis 5-8 Daniel Jones 1-7 Sterling Shepard 1-6 Wayne Gallman is a healthy scratch.

True nightmare first half for Giants: Saquon Barkley potentially seriously injured, Daniel Jones two turnovers, down 17-0 to Bears and getting shredded by Mitch Trubisky (13 of 18 for 159 yards, 2 TDs). Disaster.

One thing to watch is if the Giants can defend the slot better. Juju Smith-Schuster caught 6 passes on six targets for 69 yards and two TDs out of the slot in Week 1. The Bears used Allen Robinson in the slot last year to shred the Giants (5-108-1). Expect Logan Ryan's role you increase this week.

WR Golden Tate (hamstring) officially active. Daniel Jones has all his weapons on field for first time ever in a game. Inactives: S Adrian Colbert (quad) OLB Carter Coughlin (hamstring) RB Wayne Gallman LB TJ Brunson OL Jackson Barton DL RJ McIntosh TE Eric Tomlinson

Huge game for the Giants vs. what most believe is an average Bears team. This might be their easiest game of the first five weeks with 49ers, Rams and Cowboys on deck. If they don't win this week, where is their first win?

Dave Rothenberg discusses the trepidation Jets fans might have about Sam Darnold and his future as the QB of the organization on 98.7 ESPN. Plus, the Giants loss but showed some positive signs.
