The full Jon Gruden "pass rusher" quote from today: Question: What is it so hard to find a pass rusher? Gruden: “It's hard to find a great one. It's hard to find a good one. It's hard to find one. You just said it. College football now, they're not really dropping back to pass and throwing footballs anymore. They're throwing laterals and they're throwing bubble screens. They're running read options. So you have to train these guys. It takes a little bit of time to learn how to rush the passer. We have some guys that are in that process right now.”

Rookie defensive tackle P.J. Hall is not expected to play this weekend in Miami. He injured his left ankle in the season opener against the Rams.

Needing help for an anemic pass rush, the Raiders signed LB Shilique Calhoun from the practice squad on Tuesday. Oakland waived DT Brian Price in the corresponding roster move. Calhoun, a third-round pick of the Raiders in 2016, made Oakland's initial 53-man roster on Sept. 1 but was waived on Sept. 12. He was signed to the practice squad two days later. Calhoun had a strong preseason and has eight tackles (four solo) and a pass defensed, with five special teams tackles, in 20 career games. The Raiders (0-2) have two sacks in two games and lack of pressure late cost them dearly in Sunday's 20-19 loss at Denver. Oakland plays at Miami (2-0) on Sunday.

Gruden: No Mack trade regrets despite 0-2 start

While Jon Gruden has bemoaned the lack of a pass rush through two winless games in his return to the NFL, the Oakland Raiders coach said he has no second thoughts on trading Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears on Sept. 1.

Jon Gruden, on Bruce Irvin: "Well, obviously, we need to get more out of our captain. He's put in some tough spots, certainly. He's a good player, he's had some really good snaps. We need more and more from him. I know he's giving us everything he has. It's tough on him, certainly, because we do have a lot of new guys around him up front. But, we're happy he's here."

Broncos rally past Raiders 20-19 on McManus game-winner

Brandon McManus kicked a 36-yard field goal just inside the right upright with six seconds left, pushing the Denver Broncos to a 20-19 win over the hard-luck Oakland Raiders and denying Jon Gruden his first win as a head coach since 2008.

Settling for field goals, not being able to convert third downs in the fourth quarter and a gassed defense did the Raiders in at Denver in the 20-19 loss. Even if Derek Carr was efficient, if not explosive, in completing 29 of 32 passes and Amari Cooper had 10 catches for 116 yards. Jon Gruden is still seeking his first victory since 2008, and with a tough trip to Miami up next, the schedule makers have done him and the Raiders no favors.

Entering the 4th quarter, Derek Carr is 24-26 (92.3%)... Highest Completion Percentage, Game (20 attempts) 92.31 Kurt Warner, Arizona vs. Jacksonville, Sept. 20, 2009 (26-24) 91.30 Vinny Testaverde, Cleveland vs. L.A. Rams, Dec. 26, 1993 (23-21) 90.91 Ken Anderson, Cincinnati vs. Pittsburgh, Nov. 10, 1974 (22-20) In terms of highest completion percentage in a game, the NFL Guide and Record Book recognizes 20 as the minimum number of pass attempts

Derek Carr is now 21-of-22 to start the game (95.5%). The lone incompletion was due to miscommunication with Jordy Nelson. The Raiders record for completion percentage in a game (min. 5 att) is 91.7%, when Ken Stabler when 11-of-12 in Week 14 in 1975.

The Raiders dominated the first half, especially Oakland's defense, as they were outgaining the Broncos 202 yards to 78 with 35 seconds remaining in the half. In fact, the Raiders finished the first half with 12 first downs to the Broncos' two and held onto the ball for 20:32, compared to Denver's 9:28. Derek Carr looked to be gaining confidence as the game wore on - he was 18-19 for 158 yards - and Oakland, a week having 10 first-half penalties, had but one, for 10 yards. Perhaps the only downer for Oakland was that it only led 12-0 and had an extra-point blocked.

I ran a Twitter poll this week in the wake of Tom Flores and Steve Wisniewski being among the 102 Modern-Era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Flores, the first QB in Raiders history as well as being the first minority head coach to win a Super Bowl (he won two and has four rings total) was the poll's runaway winner with 50 percent of the vote among 1,488 respondents.

Sources: NFL to let M. Bryant play during appeal

With Martavis Bryant's yearlong suspension under appeal, the NFL is allowing the Oakland Raiders wide receiver to play until there is a verdict, sources tell ESPN.

With rookie P.J. Hall ruled out and Justin Ellis on Injured Reserve, the Raiders will ride newly-signed defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins Sunday in Denver. Where is Hankins, who last played or practiced in December, physically, from a football standpoint? "We're going to find out, said Raiders coach Jon Gruden. "We're going to find out. It's a tough job. We lost two defensive tackles. Somebody has to come in and help us out. Fortunately, he's a veteran player. He appears to be in good shape. He understands what to do. We'll keep a close eye on him."

Paul Gutierrez ESPN Staff Writer

While rookie DT P.J. Hall sat out his second straight practice with a left ankle injury, C Rodney Hudson, WR Brandon LaFell and RB Marshawn Lynch were all full participants Wednesday.
