Damien Lewis is an addition to the Seahawks' practice report, listed as a non-participant Thursday with an apparently-new groin injury. Dee Eskridge and Rashaad Penny were out again, so they're chances of playing Sunday vs. Tennessee don't look good. Penny Hart appears to be on track to play with another day of full participation. The Raiders signed Jordan Simmons off Seattle's practice squad this week, leaving Seattle with one fewer backup option at guard if Lewis' injury sidelines him.

Seahawks' Wilson mourning loss of 'best friend'

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is mourning the loss of Trevor Moawad, mental conditioning coach, business partner and, in his own words, "best friend."

As expected, Dee Eskridge and Rashaad Penny didn't practice Wednesday. The other non-participant on the Seahawks' first practice report of the week is Gabe Jackson. The 30-year-old Jackson appears to be on a similar maintenance program as Duane Brown, getting regular veteran rest days that aren't necessarily tied to injuries. Penny Hart was a full participant, so he's further along in his recovery than Eskridge after both left the opener with concussions.

With Sunday marking the Seahawks' first regular-season home game with fans at Lumen Field since December of 2019, Bobby Wagner said their defenders have to re-learn their hand signals and over-communicate before the snap, "just to make sure everything is clear." They could hear each other in the empty stadium last year, even over the pumped-in crowd noise. And that's usually not an issue for defenses on the road. "You can't take any chances with whether the person heard you or not," Wagner said.

How did L.J. Collier respond to being a healthy scratch in Week 1? "He's frustrated," Pete Carroll said. "He wants to play." Carroll implied it was more of a numbers issue with the roster -- no injuries meant they had to de-activate six healthy players -- than Collier struggling, saying: "He can play. It's just kind of fitting it all together. It's a long season. He's going to be a factor for sure down the road here if not immediately. He's available every week. We'll look at it all over again."

The Seahawks are losing one player off their practice squad with guard Jordan Simmons signing to the Raiders' 53-man roster. They made three additions to their practice squad Wednesday: receivers Connor Wedington and De'Quan Hampton and tight end Michael Jacobson. Wedington was with the Seahawks all offseason after signing with them as a UDFA. Jacobson, a basketball player at Iowa State, had a brief stint with Seattle in camp. Hampton, a 2017 UDFA, has spent time with the Lions, Saints and Bucs.

The Seahawks put backup center Ethan Pocic on IR with a knee sprain that knocked him out of their opener. That opens a spot for UDFA linebacker Jon Rhattigan's promotion from their practice squad to 53-man roster. Pete Carroll said the hope is Pocic can return after the minimum three-week stay on IR. Dee Eskridge is home Wednesday and won't practice but Penny Hart will, per Carroll. Both receivers are in the concussion protocol. Running back Rashaad Penny (calf) also won't practice Wednesday.

Pete Carroll turns 70 on Wednesday. Per ESPN Stats & Info, three other NFL head coaches have coached past their 70th birthday: Romeo Crennel (73/interim), George Halas (72) and Marv Levy (72). Carroll's latest extension with the Seahawks runs through the 2025 season, when he'll be 74.

Here are the Seahawks' offensive snap counts from their opener: tight ends Gerald Everett (39) and Will Dissly (38) had a nearly-even split ... left tackle Duane Brown played in all 54 snaps after returning to practice last week from his summer-long hold-in ... Ethan Pocic, who was rotating in at center with starter Kyle Fuller, played 14 snaps before spraining his knee late in the game.

Here are the Seahawks' defensive snap counts from their opener: Rasheem Green easily led their D-ends by playing 53 of 76 snaps. That was 13 more than Carlos Dunlap ... Ugo Amadi (34) and Marquise Blair (28) shared time at nickel ... Cody Barton subbed in for Jordyn Brooks for eight snaps at weak-side linebacker. Pete Carroll said Barton deserved to see the field after a strong summer.

Darrell Taylor contributed to the strong day for the Seahawks' pass rush with a sack and another QB hit. His sack came on fourth down when he won off the edge and hammered Carson Wentz. It was a nice NFL debut for Taylor, who missed his rookie season. Pete Carroll looked ahead to when the crowd noise at Lumen Field will give the explosive Taylor more help hitting off the snap: "He'll have some big games where it'll be really hard for people to match him up, so I'm excited about that …"

Pete Carroll's explanation on making defensive end L.J. Collier, the Seahawks' 2019 first-round pick, a healthy scratch in their opener: "We had everybody healthy and that just worked out with the way we stacked it up this time around. That thing is always in question every week. Just part of the makeup for this game-plan."

Brady Henderson ESPN

Receivers Dee Eskridge and Penny Hart both left the Seahawks' opener with head injuries and didn't return. "We don't know how serious those are until we really get some time on it, but enough that we need to keep them out," Pete Carroll said. Ethan Pocic sprained his knee while rotating at center with Kyle Fuller. Carroll wasn't sure of the severity. He said they played it safe and pulled Rashaad Penny when his calf tightened up, figuring they were fine with three other healthy tailbacks.

Seahawks wide receiver Penny Hart (concussion) and running back Rashaad Penny (left calf) are out for the rest of the game, according to announcements in the third quarter. The Seahawks' remaining receivers are Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, Dee Eskridge and Freddie Swain. With Alex Collins inactive, their remaining tailbacks are Chris Carson, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer.

Defensive end L.J. Collier, the Seahawks' 2019 first-round pick, is a surprise inactive for their opener as a healthy scratch. They have no injuries of note heading into Week 1, so they had to de-activate six healthy players. They have 10 D-linemen on their 53-man roster, so they have enough depth there to de-activate someone. GM John Schneider told 710 ESPN Seattle that it was a coaches' decision based on their defensive scheme changes and the difficulty in figuring out the D-line rotations.

The Seahawks' inactives vs. Indianapolis: DE L.J. Collier, CB Bless Austin, RB Alex Collins, OT Stone Forsythe, C Dakoda Shepley, QB Jake Luton.
