Here was Russell Wilson's reaction to Andrew Luck's retirement: “It's kind of crazy to think about. I think as fans and even as players sometimes we forget that there's life after this game. I think that a guy like Andrew, he's one of the most dedicated guys, he's always been tremendous on the field, obviously he's battled some things in his life with injuries and everything else. I don't know what it was. I haven't heard anything or whatever. But I'm praying for him, praying that he stays encouraged. This game can take a toll on us physically but also emotionally, spiritually, everything else. I think that he's demonstrated class the whole time through everything. Being highly-touted … being the No. 1 pick and everything else, there's a lot of pressure on him and I think that he handled it with grace and he handled it really well and had a tremendous career for how long he played.” Wilson said Duane Brown told him of the news right before the Seahawks took the field Saturday night. Wilson said of Luck: "He's always been a tremendous person. I've always loved being around him the times we've gotten to be around each other. Like I said, just his passion for the game, his love for the game, so I know this has to be really hard on him. So I'm just praying for him to stay encouraged."

Why have the Seahawks stuck with C.J. Prosise despite the oft-injured running back missing 32 of a possible 48 games since entering the league in 2016? For one thing, he's on an inexpensive rookie contract. He's also got a lot of talent, as he reminded everyone Saturday night. Prosise was one of the standouts of Seattle's win over the Chargers with 32 yards and a touchdown on five carries in his preseason debut after missing the first two games with a hip injury. He added a 15-yard catch. "It was a really good night for C.J.," Pete Carroll said. "It's been such a struggle for him to just get out there. He had a really good week of practice. He looked like that in practice. I don't think anybody was surprised. We were just happy for him." Prosise's injury history will work against him when it comes time for the Seahawks to decide whether to give the final spot at running back to him, Travis Homer (nine carries, 27 yards), J.D. McKissic (nine touches, 31 yards) or Bo Scarbrough (DNP). But at the very least, Prosise put a strong game on film for the rest of the league to see.

The Seahawks have serious questions about their defensive line and secondary, but they might have the NFL's best linebacker trio in Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks. They haven't spent much time on the field together this summer but did so Saturday night with Wagner (two tackles) making his preseason debut. Kendricks had three tackles, including one for loss, in the first quarter. "Mychal made a couple beautiful plays," Pete Carroll said. "I can't tell you a bunch about it, but just to have those guys out there running the show is something that's really important to us and I think it's going to be a real strength of our club. That was kind of their debut and they'll be ready for the opener." That last comment suggests none of those three will play in Thursday's preseason finale.

The Seahawks have enough trust in Russell Wilson to avoid hits and not get hurt that they allowed him to run three times (for 31 yards) in a preseason game. That stood out on a night in which Andrew Luck stunned the NFL by announcing his retirement at age 29, citing how numerous injuries have taken an emotional toll. Wilson has never missed a regular-season or playoff game since he and Luck were drafted together in 2012, and his 112 consecutive starts is the fourth-longest active streak among quarterbacks. The only two practices he's missed (offseason, training camp or during the season) were to attend funerals. The apparent end of Luck's career is a reminder that Wilson's durability shouldn't be taken for granted. As much interest as there is in the Seahawks' backup QB battle, there's a good chance that neither Geno Smith nor Paxton Lynch will play a single meaningful snap in 2019.

Here's what Seahawks GM John Schneider said about Russell Wilson on the 710 ESPN Seattle pregame show: "He's in incredible shape right now. I think his camp has been ridiculous. Every practice we go to, he's had a wow throw in there and he's throwing people open, he's moving great, total command of the offense, much more comfortable with Brian Schottenheimer's system. He's looked amazing."

Starters usually take center stage in the third preseason game, and we could see Russell Wilson and Co. play the entire first half tonight against the Chargers. But the battle for the final few roster spots at receiver is of more interest than anything in light of Friday's news that David Moore will be sidelined past the start of the season opener with a shoulder injury. Moore's absence plus DK Metcalf's recovery from recent knee surgery should open the door for another receiver -- maybe even two -- to crack the initial 53. The bubble guys to watch tonight: fourth-round pick Gary Jennings, seventh-rounder John Ursua, UDFAs Terry Wright and Jazz Ferguson and fourth-year pro Keenan Reynolds. Seahawks receivers coach Nate Carroll had some strong reviews of Reynolds this week, telling ESPN.com: "He's been one of my most reliable guys. I trust him as much … as anybody else in the room. I can throw him in at any position, at any spot. We've had him here for over a year now, so we've got to know him pretty well. He's working in, he's getting better and we'll try to get him some reps and some opportunities. He hasn't gotten it much on game day. That's kind of the way the cookie crumbles sometimes."

Seahawks receiver David Moore is expected to be sidelined past the start of the regular season due to a shoulder injury, coach Pete Carroll said Friday. Early indications are that Moore is not expected to require surgery, a source told ESPN.com. But his injury is another setback for a receiver corps that no longer has Doug Baldwin and is already without rookie DK Metcalf, who is recovering from a recent knee surgery that has his availability for Week 1 in question.

Seahawks first-round pick L.J. Collier was on the field Thursday doing some light running in warmups without a helmet. Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Collier is not yet able to cut at full speed on the ankle he sprained early in training camp. "He's doing a lot of stuff," Carroll said when asked if Collier is closer to coming back. "He's up and moving and all that and AlterG and all those kinds of things. Not quite ready to unload on it where he can run up on it and change direction. So, not quite."

Russell Wilson recently realized his long-time goal of becoming an owner of a professional sports franchise when he joined the ownership group of the MLS' Seattle Sounders. He said the process started last fall and that one of his motivations was making sure the Sounders didn't relocate. "We really care about Seattle," he said. "It's a special place for us and we wanted to make sure it didn't move anywhere else, to be honest with you."

The one-year deal Ziggy Ansah signed with the Seahawks includes up to $4.25 million in incentives, according to a source. Here is the breakdown. DEFENSIVE SNAPS: 35%-44.99% = $500K or 45%-54.99% = $1M or 55% and above = $1.5M; SACKS: 4.5-6 = $500K or 6.5-7.5 = $1M or 8-9.5 = $1.5M or 10-11.5 = $2M or 12 and above = $2.5M; OTHER: $250K if the Seahawks make the playoffs and Ansah is named a starter or backup in the Pro Bowl. Ansah had four sacks last year and played about 15% of Detroit's defensive snaps. He did not make the Pro Bowl nor did the Lions reach the playoffs. That means all of his incentives are considered “not likely to be earned” and thus do not count against Seattle's salary cap right now. Ansah's deal has a base value of $9 million, which includes $6 million guaranteed and $3 million in per-game roster bonuses. The incentives push the max value to $13.25 million. He has yet to practice as he comes back from shoulder surgery and a recent groin injury.

With the Champions Tour in town this week for the Boeing Classic at Snoqualmie Ridge, the Seahawks held their annual par 3 challenge. Tour player Brandt Jobe prevailed over kicker Jason Myers and long-snapper Tyler Ott by hitting three of five shots onto a green floating in Lake Washington about 105 yards from the edge of the Seahawks' practice field. The wind combined with a small green made it a tricky shot. Myers, a 6.5 handicap, went 2 of 5 while Ott stuck one ball on. "That's pretty good right there," Jobe remarked after one of Myers' swings.

Pete Carroll said rookie safety Marquise Blair is day to day with back spasms that forced him out of Sunday night's game at Minnesota. "He just didn't quite make it back today," Carroll said. "He tried and wasn't able to go." Blair, a second-round pick, is competing with Tedric Thompson and Delano Hill to start at safety alongside Bradley McDougald. Hill is finally back from the hip injury that ended his 2018 season and will play in Seattle's third preseason game, according to Carroll. Also expected back this week are running backs C.J. Prosise and J.D. McKissic as well as receiver Amara Darboh. Linebacker Shaquem Griffin is still not back from his bruised knee.

Here's everything Pete Carroll said Wednesday about rookie receiver DK Metcalf, who just had knee surgery. Carroll's answer to the last question suggests the team is less concerned about Metcalf possibly missing Week 1 and more concerned about all the practice/preseason reps he'll miss in the meantime.

Paxton Lynch will not play in the Seahawks' third preseason game after taking a hit to the head that forced him out of Sunday night's game at Minnesota, according to Pete Carroll. Geno Smith, who didn't play in that game, is back at practice following minor knee surgery and will play Saturday against the Chargers. Carroll said of Lynch: "We're gonna hold him out this week. He didn't quite make it back yet after passing all of the protocol and all, and we're just going to take care of him. We think it's a good idea. Geno needs to play a lot and so it'll work out. But really this is because we want to take care of Paxton. He took a nasty hit. His neck is still sore." Lynch appeared to have made up ground on Smith after the first preseason game, but the competition to back up Russell Wilson remains very much up in the air.

Brady Henderson ESPN

Pete Carroll said DK Metcalf had "minimal surgery" on his knee with "minimal findings." Still no specific timetable but Carroll reiterated his optimism that Metcalf won't be sidelined for long, saying: "We'll go week to week with it, see how he does. We really don't have any concern that he won't get back soon."‬ Asked about Metcalf playing Week 1, Carroll only reiterated that they're taking it week by week.

Another Seahawks roster move to add depth to their offensive line: they've signed tackle Brian Wallace and waived safety Jalen Harvey to make room on their 90-man roster. Both are UDFAs. The Seahawks signed guard Landon Turner yesterday while placing Demetrius Knox on IR. They were a bit thin at tackle with George Fant working his way back from an ankle sprain. Jamarco Jones didn't play Sunday night.

Seahawks roster move: they've put guard Demetrius Knox, an undrafted free agent, on IR after he hurt his quad Sunday. Seattle signed guard Landon Turner, who has played in seven career games with one start (all with New Orleans in 2016). He was with Carolina this offseason.
