The breakdown for receiver Adam Humphries' contract: It's a one-year deal with a $1.19 million cap hit with only $150,000 guaranteed. He has a $990,000 base salary with a $50,000 roster bonus. It's a low-cost signing for a player coming off a concussion while playing for Tennessee last season that landed him on injured reserve. He missed nine games last season.

The William Jackson III contract was initially filed as having a fourth year that voids; it actually has a fifth year that also voids and therefore lowers his cap number each year. So his cap hits are: $4.656 million in 2021; $14 million in 2022 and $15.75 million in 2023. If he's cut after the 2022 season he would count $9 million in dead money, but there would be a $6.75 million cap savings.

Looking ahead: Among the areas Washington still wants to address, whether now, during the draft or after -- free safety, left tackle, tight end, linebacker, running back and a dual returner. At running back it's for depth, but they need starters at the first three spots. They also will strongly consider drafting a quarterback, if one they like is available, and they're monitoring the situation with New England WR N'Keal Harry. But they don't feel they absolutely have to add another big target.

The breakdown on Curtis Samuel's contract, according to Roster Management System: His cap hit this season is $3.775 million. In 2022 the cap hit will be $12.9 million and in '23 the cap hit is $13 million. If he's cut after the 2022 season it would save Washington $5.8 million but he'd still count $7.2 million in dead cap space. His base salary of $8.5 million is fully guaranteed. The signing bonus was $12 million; there is $23 million guaranteed.

Looking ahead: After losing Fabian Moreau to the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the week, Washington is looking hard at cornerbacks and could add one in the coming days, though it's uncertain who. Regardless, it needs more depth at corner. The draft can help at other spots, notably offensive tackle, linebacker and tight end. It also will continue to monitor WR N'Keal Harry's situation in New England.

Looking back: Washington signed slot receiver Adam Humphries to a one-year deal Thursday. It allows Washington to not just align Curtis Samuel in one spot. It wants to use him in the slot, but also outside and in the backfield. He was most effective in the slot last year, but also caught 14 passes outside and eight out of the backfield, in addition to running the ball 41 times. Humphries, when right, increases the effectiveness of more diverse groupings or formations.

Washington signs deal with WR Humphries

Washington signed WR Adam Humphries to a contract, it was announced on Thursday. The deal is for one year, a source told ESPN.

Free agent slot receiver Adam Humphries will visit Washington today after arriving in town last night. Despite adding Curtis Samuel, Washington has maintained a desire to upgrade at slot receiver so it can use Samuel at multiple spots. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick spent two years with Humphries in Tampa and told the coaches he's one of the best and smartest slots he's played with. Humphries caught 78 passes in 2018 with Tampa and Fitzpatrick. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero first reported his visit.

Washington's quest to add more offensive talent could include New England WR N'Keal Harry. The team is monitoring his situation, according to multiple sources. The 6-foot-4 Harry, a first-round pick in 2019, hasn't produced and could be traded. WFT GM Martin Mayhew was in San Francisco when the 49ers showed interest in Harry before the 2019 draft. At least three other teams could be interested. One source said it's hard to imagine New England settling for anything less than a fourth-round pick.

WFT prez says name could stick, cites fan input

Team president Jason Wright told ESPN on Tuesday that fans have warmed to the placeholder Washington Football Team name and that strong consideration will be given to making it permanent.

John Keim ESPN Staff Writer

Looking ahead: Washington, with approximately $21 million in cap space, has mostly exited from the big spending stages of free agency. It will make some other signings, emphasizing depth or re-signing more of their own such as corner Fabian Moreau or LB Jared Norris on one-year deals. There will possibly be more low-end signings post-draft as well, once the team sees what it needs. Carrying cap space into 2022 will be a goal as well.
