Vick needs WRs to emerge

As another NFL season approaches, Scouts Inc. breaks down every roster and offers position-by-position breakdowns.

Michael Vick's critics might suggest he should be talked about as a running back rather than a quarterback. In their defense, Vick's quarterback rating, passing yards, completion percentage and interceptions all ranked in the bottom half of the league last year. There is also some concern about him taking so many sacks, because it suggests he's holding onto the ball too long. However, it's important to remember that Vick was learning a new scheme and his completion percentage actually improved despite that fact.

There's reason to believe that number will continue to improve as he gets more comfortable. In addition, quarterbacks are supposed to be leaders and there's no question Vick has the respect of his teammates. They believe he's capable of making a big play every time he touches the ball, as he possesses a rare blend of speed, athletic ability and arm strength.

Matt Schaub understandably experienced some growing pains during his rookie season last year, throwing four interceptions compared to one touchdown, but should develop into a quality backup. He has a quick release, sees the entire field and puts good touch on his short-to-intermediate throws.
