Walker crucial to playoff hopes

As another NFL season approaches, Scouts Inc. breaks down every roster and offers position-by-position breakdowns.

Rumors swirled that Brett Favre may retire during the offseason and some may feel that would have been the right move. After all, he isn't as mobile as he was earlier in his career, he no longer has elite arm strength and threw four interceptions in Green Bay's playoff loss to Minnesota.

However, it's important to realize that Favre finished last year with his best quarterback rating since the 2001 season, and is confident that he can still help lead this team deep into the playoffs. He almost always finds the open man given enough time, still puts adequate zip on his short-to-intermediate passes and defines the word leader.

Unrestricted free agent and 37-year-old Doug Pederson is coming off a season-ending injury, so the Packers aren't expected to re-sign him and Craig Nall is the front runner to replace him as Favre's backup. Nall's lack of experience is a concern and he doesn't have great athletic ability, but has played well given the opportunity and has the intangibles to develop into an excellent No. 2.
